STREAM project workshop, October 3rd, Langford lakes, Wiltshire

There are still places left at the STREAM project workshop to be held on October 3rd 2008 at Langford Lakes, Wiltshire. 

STREAM is a £1 million conservation project centred on the River Avon SAC and the Avon Valley SPA in Wiltshire and Hampshire. The project began in September 2005 and will:

• Demonstrate and monitor river restoration at six sites, covering 7km
• Link management of the lower reaches of the river with the floodplain
• Share best practice with UK and European river managers and specialists
• Hold events to raise awareness of the river system in the local community

The project is supported financially by the European Commission's LIFE-Nature fund. Project partners Natural England, the Environment Agency, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust and Wessex Water have also committed funding and support. 

Competent authorities (local planners, Environment Agency, and Natural England staff) are invited to a workshop to visit the works, and to discuss how river restoration relates to the management of designated sites.  Please feel free to forward this invitation to colleagues who may be interested in attending.

The day will start with brief presentations followed by a visit to STREAM river restoration works at the River Wylye at  Chilhampton.  After lunch we will visit the River Nadder at Fovant, returning to Langford lakes for a discussion session.  Please find a draft programme attached, and the latest project newsletter. 

The workshop is free, but places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
