First Announcement: 2009 World Water Week in Stockholm and SIWI news

The First Announcement for the 2009 World Water Week in Stockholm, August 16-22, provides  information on the theme, structure, and special focus of the 2009 Week. It also provides guidelines for convening a seminar or side event or submitting an abstract for presentation during the 8 workshops. The theme for 2009 is Water - Responding to Global Change: Accessing Water for the Common Good  with Special Focus on Transboundary Waters.

The 2008 World Water Week Synthesis Report is now freely available. It includes SIWI's scientific and policy conclusions from the week; reporting from specially appointed World Water Week rapporteur  teams in sanitation, water and climate, water resource management, environmental pollution and ecosystems, and transboundary waters; highlights from the Award Ceremonies; and event summaries for all workshops, seminars and side events produced by the convening organisations.  

The December issue of Stockholm Water Front magazine explains the rise of "Peak Water" and its "triple green" solution; shows how to build capacity to share water; and sheds light on new paths to combat growing food and water crises by tackling overeating and waste. In this issue, you will also find key outcomes from the 2008 World Water Week, book reviews, editorials, news from SIWI and more.   

The SIWI seminar report, "Water and Sanitation for Developing Clean and Healthy Cities" from the recent World Urban Forum 4 in Nanjing is now available. It includes summarised conclusions from presentations and the panel discussion with experts at SIWI, Asian Development Bank, UN-Habitat and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). 

SIWI's Ms. Karin Lexén will chair a plenary session on Climate Change and International Regulation at the Third Annual Water and Energy Exchange (WEX) Summit on January 28th & 29th 2009 in Benalmadena, Spain. WEX convenes leaders from around the world and across the water and energy supply chain to exchange best practices in the field and address the challenges presented by climatic and demographic change.
