Expert recommends recycled water over desalinated brackish water
During a public water forum at Norman City Hall, a water expert with the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments (ACOG) said recycled water is a better option than desalinated brackish water to meet future needs, The Norman Transcript reported.
John Harrington, director of ACOG's Water Resources Division, said that treating brackish water, which is 10 times saltier than seawater, is much more expensive than recycling wastewater, according to the story.
Harrington also talked about the Garber-Wellington Aquifer, which underlies Norman, saying that the Oklahoma Legislature has agreed to fund a study that will end the practice of issuing temporary permits to draw water out of the aquifer, the article stated.
