UN references for the High Level International Conference on the Mid-term Comprehensive Review of the Implementation of the International Decade for Action "Water for Life," 2005-2015

On the occasion of the High Level International Conference on the Mid-term Comprehensive Review of the Implementation of the International Decade for Action "Water for Life," 2005-2015 that will take place in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on 8-10 June 2010, the UN-Water Decade Programme on Advocacy and Communication (UNW-DPAC) has produced a series of readers on the main themes of the conference.

The Conference is mainly aimed at making a mid-term comprehensive review of the implementation of the International Decade "Water for Life" 2005-2015, as well as a stocktaking of the progress achieved in the implementation of internationally-agreed water-related goals, and prospects for the fulfilment of international commitments on water and water related issues by 2015. It should provide an opportunity to discuss and develop new measures to accelerate efforts toward timely and fully achievement of the goals.

The Conference will provide wide basis for discussions of the whole spectrum of water-related goals, including the following main themes: Measures to accelerate progress towards the water-related internationally-agreed development goals, including the MDGs and ensuring involvement of women; Transboundary water cooperation and the International Law; Water Quality; Water Resources and Adaptation to Climate Change, Disaster Risk Reduction; Sustainable Financing; Integrated Water Resource Management, Energy, Agriculture and Food Security.
