News Launch of the TourMedEau Project - Ciudad Programme, European Union

TourMedEau Project started in Tunisia, Morocco and Italy. This is an important project selected by the European Commission within the Ciudad Programme - Cooperation in Urban Development And Dialogue - and financed through the European Neighbourhood Partnership Instrument (ENPI).

The project, entitled TourMedEau, contributes to promote dialogue and cooperation between local governments of both shores of the Mediterranean, in order to improve environmental sustainability in urban areas through a more efficient public management of water services. Leading partner of the project is the Municipality of Villasimius, Cagliari, Italy.

Starts the TourMedEau project for a sustainable water management in the Mediterranean tourist areas

An international partnership composed by Tunisian, Moroccan and Italian partners is pleased to announce you the start of TourMedEau project, selected by the European Commission within the Programme Ciudad - Cooperation In Urban Development And Dialogue funded by the European Neighbourhood Partnership Instrument (ENPI).

The project, presented today in Cagliari (Italy), will help promote dialogue and cooperation between local governments of both shores of the Mediterranean in order to improve environmental sustainability in urban areas through a more efficient public management of water services.

The study and design of a wastewater treatment plant and water works for its reuse in agriculture and tourism will allow the exchange of experiences and expertise on wastewater treatment among Mediterranean countries, leading to the dissemination of the best techniques.

The total value of the initiative amounts to 506,177.00 euros of which the 80% amounting to 404,941.00 euros, financed by the European Union.

Tunisian partners: the Municipality of Ajim and the Ecole Nationale d’Ingénieurs de Sfax, Laboratoire Dynamique Sédimentaire et Environnement. Moroccan partners: the Municipality of El Hoceima and  the Université Moulay Ismail De Meknés. Italian partners: The Municipality of Villasimius; Enas, the regional body for water management in Sardinia and Crenos, Centre for Economic Research North-South, University of Cagliari, a section of Cirem.

OpenMed, expert in the design, implementation and management of projects funded with European, national and regional contribution, manages the technical support to the project.
