News Postdoctoral position in coastal processes at MARUM, University of Bremen, Germany Applications will be reviewed until the position is filled.

We are searching for a highly motivated and excellently qualified young scientist on postdoctoral level in the area of Distribution, dynamics and hydraulic impact of subaqueous bedforms in coastal waters. Based on high resolution bathymetric field data of different study areas, the objectives of this project are:
1. To determine the spatial distribution of bedforms in German coastal waters and to quantify the dynamics of bedforms.
2. To evaluate the existing formulations for estimation of bedform parameters and to develop improved formulations for estimating bedform parameters in nature, by combining the spatial distribution of representative hydrodynamic, sedimentological and geomorphological parameters.
3. To parameterise bedform-related hydraulic roughness and to determine the spatiotemporal distribution of bedform-related hydraulic roughness for application in numerical models.
Excellent knowledge of English, both in speaking and writing, is a requirement. Knowledge of the German language is beneficial. Salary and benefits are linked to the German employee scale TVL. International candidates are highly encouraged to apply. Applications should include a CV, list of publications, a short (1page max.) synopsis of previous research achievements and research plans, and the names of at least two referees.
The yet funded project runs until 12/2012. The position is available starting June 2011. Applications and inquiries should be sent electronically to Christian Winter.
As the University of Bremen intends to increase the proportion of female employees in science, women are particularly encouraged to apply. In case of equal personal aptitudes and qualification priority will be given to disabled persons. Applications of persons with migration background are welcome.
