News Telling stories for a sustainable Mediterranean: Joussour project presented in Rome

The EU project 'Joussour', funded under the ENPI CBC Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme to undertake the co-production of 12 docu-mags for television and Internet, devoted to Mediterranean environmental challenges, was presented at the programme’s mid-term conference held on 18 July in Rome.

Among the stories identified for this series in the countries involved, the first episode of one story of a local fisherman has been shot in Tuscany. It tells the bravery of a local fisherman who realised an innovative project, combining ecological consciousness and sustainable tourism: the immersion of concrete blocks on the seabed of that shore to prevent trawling, which causes an excessive exploitation of fish resources.

Some artists enriched the initiative by modelling marble sculptures, which will constitute the attraction of an underwater museum: an original example of dissuasive art against illegal practises that are damaging for the environment.

JOUSSOUR, funded with a budget of €497,044, is coordinated by the Permanent Conference of the Mediterranean Audiovisual Operators (COPEAM) as project leader and gathers the following partners:

• ASBU - Arab States Broadcasting Union (Tunisia)
• PBS - Public Broadcasting Services Ltd (Malta)
• RAI-Radiotelevisione Italiana / RAI Educational
• EBU – European Broadcasting Union (Associated partner) The ‘ENPI CBC Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme 2007/2013’ is a multilateral cross-border cooperation programme co-financed by the EU under the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument.
