News FP7 New Calls for Proposals

On July 9, the European Commission announced the biggest ever set of calls for proposals for research under its Seventh Framework Program (FP7), with a total of 8.1 billion euros. The funding is open to individuals, organizations and businesses in EU Member States and partner countries.

The funding makes up the lion's share of the EU's proposed 10.8 billion euro research budget for 2013 and is building a bridge to Horizon 2020, the next funding program for EU research from 2014-2020.

Funding is available under the Cooperation, People, Ideas, Capacities and Euratom programs.

Funding under the IDEAS program:

Of the total €8.1 billion in this call for proposals, €1.75 billion will support projects funded by the European Research Council in 2013. Open to independent researchers of any age, nationality or career stage, the new ERC calls are meant to help top scientists from all fields (Physical Sciences and Engineering, Life Sciences, and Social Sciences & Humanities) to produce the very best cutting-edge science and to affirm Europe's place as a world class destination for research. It is estimated that this funding will support around 900 excellent researchers in 2013 (each employing a further 6 team members on average).

The calls for the ERC Starting Grant and Advanced Grant were launched on 10 July, with deadlines on 17 October 2012 (SG) and 22 November 2012 (AG).
