News UNEP DTU ADMIRE Project Accepting Applications Until 20 March 2015

Got an idea to engage the private sector in mitigation and adaptation actions in developing countries? UNEP DTU under the ADMIRE project offers support to turn such an idea into real action! Application deadline: 20 March, 2015.

ADMIRE aims to boost private sector engagement and investment in climate change mitigation and adaptation in developing countries. The project is inviting ideas that can be developed into self-sustaining, finance-ready, nationally appropriate actions.

ADMIRE offers international expertise and technical assistance to proponents to develop their ideas into fully-fledged Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) and actions to support the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) process. Importantly, the selected actions will have secured or at least paved the way for engaging the private sector in the longer term.

ADMIRE is funded by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Building. It is implemented from 2014 to 2016 by United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and the UNEP DTU Partnership, formerly known as UNEP Risø Centre.

Focus

The private sector plays a crucial role in climate change mitigation and adaptation and new innovative business opportunities are emerging: greener investments can lead to increased market shares, lower climate change risk, and contribute to building a green economy.

ADMIRE aims to support this evolution by assisting the development of new ideas into nationally appropriate frameworks for mitigation and adaptation action in collaboration with local experts and project proponents, aiming at ensuring public and private sector synergy.

ADMIRE is not a traditional grants scheme for projects. ADMIRE’s main focus is creating the settings for the longer term involvement of the private sector. Therefore, it does not support:

  • private business development;
  • pilot projects without plans for larger scale implementation;
  • feasibility studies or similar analyses.

Although ADMIRE supports the development process of NAMAs and NAP Actions, project ideas will be evaluated on the prospective outcome in terms of private sector involvement.

Eligibility

  • In principle, all non-Annex I countries are eligible for support, but a geographically balanced distribution of activities will be sought.
  • Private sector engagement is required.
  • Public sector endorsement from a relevant ministry or authority is required for the idea, i.e. a confirmation that the idea is sufficiently interesting for further development in the public sector’s view.
  • Joint mitigation and adaptation project ideas are welcome.

Applications: www.admireproject.org to access the relevant (adaptation or mitigation) application forms.

Deadline for submission of ideas: 20 March, 2015

ADMIRE administrative set-up: UNOPS is the project administrator and UNEP DTU Partnership provides ongoing technical support for all aspects of the process: from application and idea development to finance-ready, nationally appropriate frameworks for action.
