FP9 Preparation: Work in Progress

The proposal for the new FP9 is expected to be adopted by the EC before summer 2018. Preparatory work to design this proposal includes aspects such as evaluation of the previous FPs and expert studies to help structure the programme, define its budget and select the priorities it should address. There is a number of key discussion points for FP9, on which stakeholders’ views either converge or conflict, such as the budget for the programme, with proposals ranging between €120 and €160 billion, or the required balance between two conflicting dimensions: excellence and cohesion, the expectations regarding the implementation of the EIC and missions, the role of citizens in co-designing FP9 and the co-creation of its results, and interactions between higher education and research and innovation.  A briefing document has been prepared by the European Parliamentary Research Service.
