Project Regional and National research programmes network on Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM)

IWRM-NET is an ERA-Net project, coordinated by the International Office for Water and funded by the European Commission, that has started in January 2006 and will end in 2010.

IWRM-NET (2006-2010) is funded by the European Commission (EC). IWRM-NET’s concern is Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) research. ERA-NET is short for European Research Area Network, a specific kind of project funded by the EC.

IWRM-NET started with 17 partners from 14 Members states. In June, the Comunidad de Madrid joined the consortium and is taking part in the first call for research proposals. IWRM-NET is open to new partners who manage water research.

The partnership will be open to new programme managers after 3 years; meanwhile a status of observers will allow new research programme managers to participate to the different IWRM-NET events.

Objectives IWRM-NET aims to implement new research activities at the national and regional levels related to Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) with a focus on the Water Framework Directive. Seventeen partners are currently involved for the time being of IWRM-NET from 2006 to 2010 and share the common objective to implement new trans-national and trans-regional research activities related to the Integrated Water Resource Management.

The overall aim is to get a better insight of the European IWRM issues addressed by stakeholders.

The EC’s aim is to support European research managers in coordinating their efforts and implementing
trans-national and regional research activities together. While research is one output from ERA-NET projects, the EC’s funding is used to create the networks of research managers and not for the research
itself.
