News Arab countries approve roadmap on water security

Arab countries face severe shortages in water resources. At the second session of the Arab Water Council, it was agreed to implement a roadmap looking into such issues as optimizing water consumption, the promotion of non-conventional water resources and the development of water resources institutions.

Saudi Arabia has recently been rated worst among the Gulf Co-Operation Council (GCC) countries for water security, in a new index that rates countries on the availability of fresh water to the society and businesses.

Oman has recently announced that they will become the first country in the region to introduce a new method to help with the storage of water - fog-harvesting. The method involves collecting fog water on a mesh net and converting this into a viable water source.

Jordan has been named as one of the region's water scarce countries in a report titled 'Arab Environment: Impact of Climate Change on Arab Countries.' The report focuses on the need for better management of water resources in Arab countries.
